Indoor or Outdoor Wedding: Which Is Best for Your Big Day?

Outdoor Ceremonies

You’ve got a date in mind, a vision forming, and a guest list growing. Now comes one of the earliest and most consequential decisions of your planning journey: do you get married indoors or outside? At Dallas Palms in Carrollton, TX, we hear this question from nearly every couple who walks through our doors, and the honest answer is that neither is universally better. It depends on your guest count, your style, and how much flexibility you want built into your day.

What we can tell you is this: we have both, and we’ve seen both done beautifully.

Why Your Venue’s Indoor and Outdoor Options Should Work Together

Many couples frame this as an either/or choice. At Dallas Palms, it doesn’t have to be. Our ballrooms and gardens are designed to complement each other, not compete. Whether you’re planning a Nepali wedding and cultural event, an Indian or Pakistani wedding ceremony and celebration, a Desi family gathering, a Nigerian ceremony, or a classic American multicultural event, the spaces here are built to flex around your traditions and guest count.

That matters because the right combination of indoor and outdoor spaces often makes the day flow more naturally than picking just one.

What Indoor Ceremony Spaces Offer

Our three ballrooms, the Bel Air, the Melrose, and the Malibu, each bring something distinct to an indoor wedding. The Bel Air seats up to 500 guests and features mezzanines on both sides, giving the room a layered, dramatic feel without any added decoration. The Melrose has a central staircase that opens onto a covered patio and garden, ideal if you want a grand entrance moment. The Malibu, with its two staircases and central chandelier, seats up to 120 and has an intimacy that larger ballrooms can’t replicate.

For Hispanic weddings, parties, and cultural festivals, or for any celebration where the ceremony and reception happen in the same building, the indoor ballrooms handle the full arc of your day. Set up, teardown, and cleaning are all managed by our team, so your vendors and family can focus on being present.

What Outdoor Garden Ceremonies Give You

Our gardens span three distinct settings. The Bel Air Garden is roughly 10,000 square feet and holds 250 to 300 guests for a ceremony. It has an upper space with an arbor and water feature, plus a lower level with turf, a waterfall, and a fire pit lounge area. The Melrose Garden covers about 5,000 square feet, fits up to 160 guests, and has two pergolas wrapped in string lights. The Malibu Garden is a more intimate 4,000 square foot space with a ceremony arch, a water feature, and a string light canopy overhead.

Outdoor Wedding

For couples planning Nigerian events, ceremonies, and community functions, or any group that values open air and natural scenery, the gardens offer a setting that feels lush and personal. Uplighting and ambience lighting are included with room rental, so the gardens transition beautifully into the evening.

How to Decide What’s Right for Your Group

A few honest questions help most couples land on the right answer. First, what’s your guest count? If you’re expecting 300 or more, the Bel Air Ballroom, combined with its garden, gives you the most room to work with. If you’re closer to 100 to 170, the Melrose or Malibu ballrooms pair well with their corresponding gardens for a ceremony to cocktail to reception flow.

Second, how much does weather certainty matter to you? Indoor ceremonies remove that variable entirely. Outdoor gardens are gorgeous, but Texas summer heat and spring storms are real considerations, especially if you’re hosting elderly guests or guests with mobility needs.

Third, think about your cultural traditions. Many of the South Asian pre-wedding events and American multicultural gatherings we host here involve multiple outfit changes, specific ritual spaces, or large family moments that benefit from the flexibility of having both indoor and outdoor areas available.

Conclusion

There’s no single right answer, but there is a right fit for your wedding. We’d love to walk you through the spaces in person so you can feel the difference between the rooms and see the gardens at the time of day your ceremony would happen.
